ViewRanger: Hike, Bike or Walk App Reviews

I used this app every time I go trail riding on my horse we are in a new unfamiliar area and I us it to be able to track my trails see how far Ive gone and find my way back to the barn!!! Seriously wish I had this app ten years ago! Love how it has so many option weather you, walk, jog, ski, dog sled, canoe, or hot air balloon, theirs a option for you!!! Getting my friends to get the app to so we can use the buddy beacon!!! You have to play around with it for a while to figure out all the options but once you get it you will use it all the time!

The maps are extremely outdated and decades old, as big a joke has Apple maps are they are 10 times better than this app.

The maps are not correct and the App is complex to use. Removed.

Used this app to map out a kayaking track on the New River and it worked beautifully! The details was spectacular and even showed where our group docked off to swim. Also used this to map out family hiking trails to create a great map! Great app!

Used it to navigate a 53 mile suburban route that was new to me (California, US). Map, location and real-time directions were very helpful. Also nice to have offline maps, for rides in areas with now data network. Trying to figure out how best to configure for longer rides, where directions would be helpful but leaving the screen on/lit will drain the battery; complicated further with stretches of road with no 3G/4G: maybe just use the offline maps & gps location (not navigation directions, which require the screen to be on).

I no longer have a need to use by Nexus 7 with Backcountry Navigator Pro! I have been waiting for non-subscription based access to these maps via my iPhone. Love it!

Try too zoom in and find the elevation of a line and get nothing. The topo lines are faint and can not even tell if your going up the hill or down, cant read the numbers. Im going out in the woods with no cell, no wifi,.... I got lost just trying to figure out how too use this app with the map....

The maps are terrible, get google earth if you want something like this

I really appreciate this app. I jut got back from a trip to Scotland. I downloaded maps and it was a great help when we got to a city we were not familiar with. We tracked our tour and made sure we could track back to the train station and hotel. The programmers did a great job with this app. Highly recommended.

Even without any service this app still maps out your route! It has saved us on our horses in Colorado!

Def. liking it so far. Hope to find a way to view map as Sat images and a way to share POIs.

This is the best map I ever used. A great guide for wildness hikers, it has live GPS tracker recording.

Horrible map app, paid for credits, downloaded a map of an area I plan to walk this weekend, but you can not see anything. You cant see the paths, the starting points, landmarks, nothing other than what you get on Google Maps. Rubbish and a huge waste of money! So disappointed.

app violates your privacy by tracking you when not using the app.

This is the best app I have used for hiking and skiing so far. Seriously! It is extremely customizable, but does require a little guessing and intuition to figure out how to customize, track, share, etc. After doing a few track recordings and exploring, you can really make this whatever you want. And dont worry, this thing is well programmed so even if you think the track got overwritten or started over, its probably in your tracks section in the organizer. Pretty idiot-proof, is what Im saying :) That said, a complete tutorial or help/guide for the app would be nice for a reference. Web isnt always available, so stored on the phone if possible.

I use this app all the time for storing and displaying POIs while I travel. The features I like most are the offline map access and ability to load my own POIs. The resolution is not as good as online maps, it couldnt be without making them too big for a mobile device.

Apps can offer to just monitor our location just when we are using the app. Vr has opted to refuse that option. Customer service gave me the run around. I found another gps app that is great so bubeye

This app tracks your location all the time, not just when app is in use or in background. Does not give the user the option to limit location use to actual use of app.
