Love this app. I looked for a long time and this is my go to app for backwoods adventures. Mountain biking and hiking.
Love this app. I looked for a long time and this is my go to app for backwoods adventures. Mountain biking and hiking.
I ride a quad on Forest Service roads and the roads are marked with names. (N642efor example) This app doesnt show any names to compare so you know can tell where you are. I have a free app thats much better.
The Skyline Augmentation to this app is absolutely incredible. You set a distance scale, point the phones camera at something of interest, and "bam" a text pointer appears! While one reviewer complained of a lack of specificity in the naming conventions, he probably wouldnt be happy no matter what. I have an M.Sc. In Geography, and have lived in the same town for over 60 years, and I learned more about my surroundings, utilizing this feature, than with years of cartographic research and design. Good Job.
This app is very confusing to use and the interface is chunky I hope they fix it soon...
I have been using this app for the last three weeks, and on 9 different hikes in Arizona. Seems quite accurate, and I liked being able to view my hiking distance, time, and elevation gains/losses on my Apple Watch while hiking, without having to get my phone out. Having said that, and here is the reason VR only gets 4 stars from me, after the latest update, the Apple Watch functionality has now become useless to me. The only way to use it is to upload a "Route" from the phone app to your watch, and I hike trails that are not in View Rangers data base. View Ranger, please give me back realtime hiking stats and pause/record viewing on my watch!
I just started using ViewRanger and liked the fact that I could see stats on my Apple Watch while recording a track. As others have noted, when I upgraded to 7.1 tonight, that functionality went away. Apparently ViewRanger wanted to be able to show a watch that provided turn by turn hiking instructions and therefore took away ALL watch functionality except following predefined Routes (note these are not routes that you have created). I would have thought the turn by turn would have been in addition to the existing functionality, but not so.
Too expensive, too intrusive.
*Horrible interface. *Pay for maps that are free in other apps. *Same trails as other apps and less information about the trails. *Annoying emails. *Apple Watch functionality is near pointless and drains battery. Thats my five star review for this one star app
Update: I have now used this app on a several trips in Colorado, Utah, and Arizona. The updated trail overlays on the topo maps have been super helpful and its pretty easy to save maps on your phone. Love the new Skyline feature too. Highly recommend.
This app is unbelievably terrible.
The UI is confusing to the point where its not worth using. The developer/designer needs to read the Human Interface Guidelines.
The free apps have better and a lot more info on trails than this app. A waste of money if you decide to buy. See ya money hungry app developers. You wont con me.
While good in theory, this application is not accurate at all. I am a military instructor and notices that the location in the UtM setting is WAY off. When I compared the grid coordinates to my known location on a map, the program was nearly 3 kilometers off from where I was. That is a sure sign that it is totally unreliable.
Was accurate but a pain to deal with. Not user friendly. Worthless app cool to see my hike and time and elev. but real confusing to do anything with it. Not made for the US unless you buy the other one
Takes a bit to learn the app and configuration settings, but overall is a great tool to layout hiking and skiing routes, and review tracks. Not sure why some reviewers complained about accuracy. Seems reasonably accurate and consistent so far.
Lots of options w/good reception, tough on battery life other than that works well.
Easy to use and seems to know all the tracks around here
Use it hog hunting with dogs a lot saved me from getting lost many a night an mark all our catches
Great app, I had some land surveyed and this app gps reassured me I was on the correct property , enough so that I cleared a 2 mile trail around the property with a clearing saw and chainsaw.
The only thing keeping this from being a great App is the crApple itself. The limited battery life limits the true usefulness and capability of this great App. Almost matched my buddys Garmin step for step over the weekend at a far better price.
